Venue


The Staff Recognition Event will take place on Governors Island at their Picnic Point area located at the southwest tip of the island (same areas as last year).  DYCD will have a designated area for our exclusive use. There will be limited picnic table seating and a couple of tents where the food will be served.  Restroom facilities are close to our area.  Staff are free to bring picnic blankets and collapsible chairs if that is convenient.  Click here for a map of the island.




Event Schedule


11:00am – Staff can begin arriving at Picnic Point


12:30pm – Lunch will be served


1:30pm – Organized games


3:00pm – Event ends


Staff can stay on the island until 6:00pm and use pre-paid return trip fare to Manhattan.




Transportation


Every registered attendee will be provided with one pre-paid round-trip ride on the Governors Island ferry.  DYCD staff will be at the ferry terminal to validate your ferry fare. YOU MUST BRING YOUR DYCD PHOTO ID to be able to get on the ferry.  The ferry terminal is located to the left of the Staten Island Ferry Terminal at 10 South Street (corner of South and Whitehall Streets).


The ferry runs on an hourly schedule beginning at 10am.  Once on Governors Island, the Picnic Point area is about a 15 minute walk through the island. For those who have accessibility challenges and have indicated such with Human Resources, you will receive a separate email prior to the event on ground transportation from the offices to the ferry and on Governors Island.

Food


DYCD will be providing food, beverage and dessert for all attendees. The menu includes an assortment of sandwiches (turkey, ham, tuna), and Halal and Kosher options (for those who have requested in their RSVP for the event), chips, cookies, bottled water, soda and seltzer. We hope that we have been able to accommodate everyone, but if not, you are welcome to bring your own lunch or purchase food from vendors on the island.




Activities


In addition to having lunch together, we will take some time to honor our long list of awardees for theiryears of service and accomplishments. We will also have a few organized activities.


The rest of the time is yours to spend with your colleagues and you may explore the island outside of the picnic area.




What to Wear


You may dress in casual attire as long as you use your best judgment taking into consideration the venue and weather for that day and that you are at an agency event. (i.e. T-shirts, shorts, sneakers or sandals are okay but swim wear is not).




What to Bring


Feel free to bring picnic blankets, folding chairs, games and sports equipment.  However, DYCD and island management expressly disallows alcoholic beverages, illegal substances, pets (except service animals), motorized bicycles, scooters or skateboards and the use of drones.
