If you are or plan to be a nonprofit chair, board member, or CEO, and you believe a stronger board leads to a more impactful organization, join a powerful group of colleagues for an energizing day jam-packed with valuable perspectives, practical tools, and resources.  Originally planned as a one day conference, this has now been converted to a webinar series.


Learning goals:




  • Provide background information on Support Center’s governance programs funded by DYCD and these opportunities




  • Raise awareness among boards around key aspects of governance including board self-awareness, the chair/CEO partnership, compliance, recruitment, and fundraising.




  • Provide opportunities for peer learning and networking.




  • Motivate attendees to undertake governance work within their own organizations.

– Board Assessment: Know The Score Whether aiming to win more games, make more money, or win more votes, successful team leaders periodically assess their performance and identify areas to improve. At the highest level in a nonprofit, that role belongs to the Board of Directors, and it starts with assessment. We’ll begin by reviewing the list of Board Roles & Responsibilities to identify ways your organization’s board can ask and answer the questions that enable it to assess itself and increase the organization’s impact.

– What Goes On In Our Board, Stays In Our Board: Playing Your Best Inside Game Hands-off boards are only fun until someone takes an eye out… or an organization goes into crisis mode because of fraud, mismanagement, or from a more mundane but just as lethal lack of planning and evaluation. This session will provide insight and tools boards can use to plan and lead ethically, financially and legally responsible organizations.

– Raising Funds & Friends: Playing The Outside Game In addition to governance, every member of the best board teams donate, raise funds, and serve as ambassadors. In this session, we’ll explore the Board’s role in making the case for the organization and securing support, and suggest ways to do so.

Winning the Draft: Enlisting, Engaging, and Organizing All-Star Board Members Every organization will have its own answer to what best ideal Board lineup looks like. In this session, you’ll get powerful tips for defining your ideal Board team and then finding, enlisting, orienting, and developing those members.
