Preparing the Next Generation Workshop: Addressing the Racial Leadership Gap in Fundraising
by
Cause Effective has worked with many nonprofit professionals of color who so often expressed barriers to manage their departments, lead organizations, conduct fundraising and advance professionally in the nonprofit sector.
In 2018, Cause Effective led a year-long exploration into the lived experience of fundraisers of color, speaking with over 200 fundraising professionals, executive directors, funders, recruiters and others to gain a nuanced understanding of how money, power and race intersect in the philanthropic field. The result of this work: Money, Power and Race: The Lived Experience of Fundraisers of Color, reflects participants’ experience; and while diversity matters in the nonprofit sector, people of color need to be skilled not only in fundraising acumen, but also have the awareness and tools to navigate the intersectional dynamics of power, race and class that are endemic to fundraising encounters.
This workshop is for Development Directors and Executive Directors to:
Examine why the dynamics around power, race and class need attention to support diversified leadership development in the field
Learn strategies to navigate challenges that arise and gain tools to advocate for the entry, retention, promotion and growth of fundraisers of color in the nonprofit sector
Build community and strengthen your network with nonprofit fundraisers of color in the field
Preparing the Next Generation Workshop will help to build a pipeline of fundraisers of color in the field and strengthen the nonprofit sector
Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their own experience as fundraisers and explore the internal and external power dynamics that are shared amongst many fundraisers of color. This workshop will offer a meaningful opportunity for nonprofit professionals of color to create community and partner in improving nonprofits’ responsibility to improve racial equity, promote inclusion, and diversify the leadership pipeline in the fundraising field.
This professional development opportunity is provided at no cost to you but has a value of $250 for DYCD. If you register for and are subsequently unable to attend this session you are responsible for cancelling your registration or risk being waitlisted for future events.
