TIPPS #1 Staying in Balance: Healthy Solutions to Managing Workplace Stress
Thursday, October 17th, 2019 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Self-care is not selfish or self-indulgent. We cannot nurture others from a dry well. We need to take care of our own needs first, then we can give from our surplus, our abundance.
TIPPS is a cohort series of 6 workshops with cohort members selected through an application process. The Fall 2019 TIPPS program is full. If you are a supervisor or site director and are interested in applying for the Spring 2020 TIPPS program, please email Cristina Harris, Director of Training, at charris@vibrant.org.
Ensuring that you are taking care of yourself is foundational to the work of being a trauma-informed practitioner. The work begins with YOU and your wellness, which then enables you to provide the highest quality of service to those who need you most.
Do you sometimes feel stressed out because of the work you do? Are you feeling overwhelmed Your work can be challenging, and sometimes you may feel as though you are giving so much to others that you are neglecting your own physical, emotional, and mental health. Job stress can have far-reaching effects that when not managed can lead to burn-out, decreased productivity, physical and mental exhaustion and emotional distress.
This workshop provides participants with tools to respond in healthy ways to the different levels of emotional distress that arise from the course of their day-to-day interactions. This is an opportunity for staff members of all levels to identify and discuss sources of stress in their workplace and learn healthy ways to cope with that stress.
What will you learn?
Participants will be able to:
- Understand common symptoms of stress and how it effects work performance
- Create a self-care assessment and plan to stay mentally, emotionally, and cognitively balanced
- Learn how to identify telltale signs of stress
Facilitated by: Lisa Furst, LMSW, MPH and Cristina Harris, MSW
