Training Description:
Working with teens and young adults can be fun… and challenging! Have you ever been frustrated with a teen’s strong need to challenge authority and question rules? Does it feel like you are on an emotional roller coaster with some of your youth? Do you want more strategies for addressing challenging behaviors when they arise? Join us to learn more about this adolescence, the incredible period of growth from childhood to adulthood.
Adolescence is a time of immense change in the life cycle. Hormones are shifting, bodies are growing, and moods are swinging! Sometimes understanding the layers of change happening in the adolescent mind and body can be hard for the adults in their lives to understand or relate to. This session will serve as an introduction to the dynamic shifts that define adolescence and provide you with skills for effectively responding to challenging behaviors.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Define typical adolescence
- Identify developmental tasks of adolescence and make connections to youth behavior
- Learn strategies to respond to challenging behaviors in developmentally-appropriate ways
Facilitated by: Rebecca Anuru, MSW, MPH & Cristina Harris, MSW, Center for Policy, Advocacy, & Education at Vibrant Emotional Health
