Program Level Resources
Type of Service: General nonprofit management

PowerPlay advances the lives of girls in New York City, helping them grow physically, emotionally and academically stronger. We create opportunities for girls ages 6 through 21 by partnering with schools and CBOs in NYC to conduct after-school and summer programs that emphasize physical fitness and education. Using sports as our hook, we build girls? confidence and resiliency from the inside-out and create safe spaces where girls learn from one another and from strong female role models. In elementary and middle school, we provide girls opportunities to increase their self-confidence, become physically active and connect with other girls and adult women role models. For high school girls, our Leadership Academy gets girls ready for college and the workforce through a structured, girl-centered approach focused on three key areas: sports/physical fitness, college access and career/life skills development. They also develop as mentors and leaders by serving as youth coaches in our after-school programs. Combined, our programs serve over 1,800 girls a year from the five boroughs of New York City and concentrated in low-income, underserved communities. 95% of our participants are girls of color and over 90% receive free lunch in school. PowerPlay?s girl-focused sports and education programs allow girls to prosper and thrive in a safe space and gives them the chance to try new things.
